It’s a new year.
A blank slate.
Nothing but possibility awaits.
This is our year.
This is the moment that matters.
How we spend this one precious moment
determines how we spend this one precious day
determines how we spend this one precious week
determines how we spend this one precious month
determines how we spend this one precious year
determines how we spend this one precious life.
So let’s stop wasting energy on things we really can’t control.
And let’s stop wasting time on things that don’t really matter.
Instead let’s embrace possibility with open arms and brave hearts.
Let’s lighten our load by letting go of
and paralyzing fear.
And in doing so, maybe we’ll make more room to
embrace the moment,
accept of each other’s shortcomings,
risk acts of daily courage both big and small.
Let’s spend more time with people who stretch us, inspire us, and lift us up,
and less with those whose resentments and discontentments drag us down.
Let’s spend a whole lot more time doing what what energizes our true selves
and a lot less time trying to make ourselves fit in the cramped image of others’ expectations.
This year let’s learn to tell stories of courage and joy and celebration
as passionately and competitively as we seem to be able tell those of
our blunders and frustrations.
This year the choices are ours.
This year we decide.
How will we welcome each rising sun?
What dreams and desires will we nurture?
When will we say YES and when will we say NO?
How will we face the challenges that unexpectedly choose us?
What colors will we paint the canvas of our lives?
Who will we gather around our campfires?
What lives will we intentionally touch?
What leaps we will courageously take?
What prayers we will silently whisper?
Yes. This is the year.
And nothing but possibility awaits.
