Today, I reflect on the friends who love me enough to help me keep growing.
Sometimes I just need a listening ear.
The chance to vent.
A friend who lets me stomp my feet, shake my fists and scream out loud.
Someone who will hear my every frustration and grievance.
Someone who will acknowledge my feelings.
Someone who will understand.
Yet, my real friends do so much more.
They don’t simply listen and agree.
They don’t leave me stuck there, wallowing in a mucky narrative of helplessness.
They don’t allow me to adopt the cloak of a victim.
Instead, they nudge me forward.
My dearest friends see the me that is possible.
They see beyond the panic and pain of one moment.
They stand by me whispering words of confidence and courage.
Until I find my way to through this next hard thing.
They help me polish my lenses and get a fresh view of things.
The help me consider the perspectives I may have missed.
They help me find my own place of responsibility.
They firmly remind me I am strong and powerful.
They help me rethink, reframe, lean in, or step back.
They guide me to remembering what really matters.
They refuse to let me take myself too seriously.
They encourage me to reach out and stretch up.
They ask the kind of questions that drive my thinking deeper.
They remind me of the power of “YET”.
They remind me of the power of “WHAT IF”.
They remind me that I always have options.
They help me make plans to outgrow myself and my situation.
Yes, my truest friends leave me better than they found me.
Because they help me grow.
Today, take the time to recognize the people who love you by nudging you forward.
