This I Believe
I believe in a world made more wonderful through the power of education.
I believe that the most powerful learning is driven by students who are empowered to make choices and solve problems.
I believe that teaching is a messy and non-linear business that is best guided by knowing our students deeply as readers, as writers, and as people.
I believe in the power of knowing when to teach explicitly, when to coach supportively, and when to stand back and let students struggle a bit on the path to independence.
I believe that in order to succeed as teachers, we must remain humble in our own journey as learners.
I believe that if we risk both vulnerability and openness we will keep growing into better versions of ourselves.
I believe that if we walk side-by-side with our students as fellow readers, writers, and citizens we can help them develop into thoughtful, self-directed, and caring human beings.
I believe that connection with others will provide us energy and inspiration to overcome weariness and confusion.
I believe that by working together we can find the courage to keep taking the next step.
I believe it is a series of small but consistent actions that add up to real change in the world.
I believe this is the most important work on the face of the earth.
I believe in teachers.
I believe in children.
I believe in the power of now.
This, I believe.
What do you believe? How will you share?
